Long Division Director The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 1 16, Paragraph 4, of [he Colorado Revised Statutes, [ha[ on March 13, 1997, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Foidel Creek Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Twen[ymile Coal Co. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. This Revision proposes to reduce the length of the lonwall panels from 16,000 ft to 10,000 ft. The SW gateroad connecting 7R and 2R gate roads has been reconfigured and production rate will be increased to 10,000 T/yr. No new surface disturbances are projected. The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 23 miles southwest of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: The above-mentioned tracts of ,land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rattlesnake Butte. Because [he above referenced technical revision application may alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the potential for impacts to cultural and historic resources. In order for us to approve this revision, we are required to make a finding that "the proposed operations will not adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those places eligible for listing, as determined by the SHPO, on the National Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and the Federal, State, or local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place." We request your evaluation and concurrence in order to make this finding, pursuant to the May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) behveen our agencies.
