Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 1 16, <br />Paragraph 4, of [he Colorado Revised Statutes, [ha[ on March 13, 1997, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Foidel Creek Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was <br />submitted by Twen[ymile Coal Co. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations <br />initiate from this date of filing. <br />This Revision proposes to reduce the length of the lonwall panels from 16,000 ft to 10,000 ft. The SW gateroad <br />connecting 7R and 2R gate roads has been reconfigured and production rate will be increased to 10,000 T/yr. <br />No new surface disturbances are projected. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 23 miles southwest of Steamboat <br />Springs, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />The above-mentioned tracts of ,land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rattlesnake Butte. <br />Because [he above referenced technical revision application may alter previously approved permit conditions or <br />mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the potential for impacts to cultural and <br />historic resources. <br />In order for us to approve this revision, we are required to make a finding that "the proposed operations will not <br />adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those places eligible for listing, as determined by <br />the SHPO, on the National Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and the Federal, <br />State, or local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place." We request your evaluation and concurrence in <br />order to make this finding, pursuant to the May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) behveen our <br />agencies. Please refer to the MOU when undertaking your review. <br />STATE OF COLORADO <br />Enclosed are pertinent portions of the application, including a mine plan map. Please return Mine map with your <br />response. Please advise us if you require additional information. <br />
