Watcher
E~ecunve Dueaor
Michael 8. long
Division Dveclor
On December 28, 2000, DMG approved your application for Technical Revisiok~i}g 1 (TR-0011 to Permit
No. M-1980-146 for the Montoya Pit addressing revisions to the mining and reclafPl3tion plans to allow
mining of a pit in the pit floor at the southwest corner of the site and allowing portions of the west and
north highwalls to be mined to a vertical face and then be backfilled to reduce their grade to 3H:1 V. The
terms of TR-001 are hereby incorporated into the permit. All other conditions of the permit remain in full
force and effect.
A reclamation cost estimate in the amount S 177,564.00 was calculated for the current condition of the
site. BLM currently holds a financial warranty amount of 511,400.00 which can be subtracted from the
amount required by DMG. A new financial warranty in the amount of S 166,164.00 can be submitted to
replace the current financial warranty, or a financial warranty in the amount of 5116,925.00 can be
submitted in addition to the 549,239.00 financial warranty currently held. The increased financial warranty
is due on February 27, 2001.
As stated in previous correspondence, Cand Jcan reduce the amount of financial warranty required by
completing as much of the reclamation as possible prior to February 27, 2001 and requesting an inspection
of the reclamation work performed.
BLM has indicated that another ten acre gravel mining lease block may be awarded to C and J in the near
future. If this occurs, C and J must immediately reduce the west highwall to a 2H:1 V slope as specified in
TR-001 and continue excavating that slope at a 2H:1 V, reclaiming it to a 3H:1 V slope using overburden
from the new lease block. C and J will need to notify DMG upon award of that lease block so the
reclamation cost estimate can be revised accordingly. Please be aware that the permit currently states that
ten acres of the current pit will be reclaimed prior to excavation of the next ten acre black. Therefore, other
than reducing the west highwall to a 2H:1 V grade, no additional mining in the new lease block lif awarded)
can occur before ten acres has been brought to final grade, topsoiled, tilled, fertilized, seeded, and mulched.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Durango Field
Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, telephone no. 970-247-5062.
Sincerely,
~~
Steve S.
