Richard D. Lamm
Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DI\
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
T0: Candace Thompson
FROM: Jeffrey Deckler ~~
RE: Wyoming Fuel Company Flume Monitoring Reduction
During a recent meeting with Dave Stout which dealt with outstanding permit
stipulations, the subject of monitoring the flumes in Santisteven and Apache
Canyons was discussed. Apparently, in addition to making a finding on the
monitoring requirements of these sites, we must also make an additional
finding pursuant to New Elk Stipulation 14. What must be determined is
whether the data which has been submitted (1 yr.) is sufficient to identify
and differentiate seasonal flow variations. I would appreciate it if when
reviewing the WFC data, you would address both these questions. Pursuant to
the flume monitoring requirements, Dave suggested the possibility of
discontinuing current monitoring (they have accumulated 1 yr. of baseline) and
resuming prior to longwall mining in that area.
•
u
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
