Lottery sales
booming
Colorado Lottery sales are
booming. For the second con-
secutive year, the Lottery has
set a new sales record, shatter
ing old record, established
only a year ago, by mote than
545.6 trWlion.
According to Preliminary
figures, the Lottery sold ap-
protdmately 5185.5 trillion in
Lotto and Scratch tickets dur-
ing fiscal year 1990.91, which
ended Jtme 30. Last fiscal
year, the Lottery sold 5139.9
million. Lottery Director Can-
dice Bluerhel attributes the
increased sales [o the additiorm
of a second weekly Lotto
drawing last July, several large
Lotto jackpots and the redistri-
bution of the Saatckt game
prize structures.
Lotto and Snatch game
winners pocketed more than
S92 million, another record.
The Lottery is required to re-
turn at least 50 percent of
revenues to players in the form
of prizes.
Record Lottery sales are
good news for all Coloradans,
however, because inQeaxd
Lottery revenues mean more
money will be available for
local parks and recreation
state parks, and capital con-
struction, the three funds that
receive Lottery proceeds. The
Lottery originally projected a
combined proceeds figure of
537 million for tY 90-91,
baud on an initial sales goal
of 5130.5 mr7h'on. In February,
the sales goal was revised to
5156.5 million, and proceeds
for the year were reestimated
upward to 545.4 million.
Although fittal proceeds fig-
ures for FY 90.91 will not be
available tma7 mid-August
Blttechel believes she Lottei}ra
contribudo~tss for the year
could total close to S58 mil-
lion, yet another record.
"Phis has been dearly the
Lottery's bas[ year ever,' she
Bald. 'But as We've said before,
everyone wins with the Lot-
tery. Thousands more player
have won rash prizes, and all
of Colorado wine with the
increased motley avar7able for
parks, recreation and public
buildings.'
The Lottery enters fiscal
year 1991-92 with a sales goal
