MUUNI KUYALt VtNiUK raiu~ V~µ/bp
Mr. Thomas Schreiner
Division of Reclamation, Miniurg and Safety
Adequacy Review Cornntents TR-OS
4nor~ao~
The standards shall apply to each monitoring point. The suite of parameters for which
sampling is proposed are those listed in Table 1. Accordingly, MRV believes that it is not
necessary to monitor total dissolved solids (TDS), sulfate, and specific conductivity as
these parameters are not included within the Agricultural groundwater quality limits as
presented in CWQCC; 2005. Regulations No. 41, Table 3.
MRV has also proposed to monitor dissolved metal species. The rationale is as follows:
1. Groundwater. Groundwater passing through the Boulder Creek Granite that hosts
the mine provides provides excellent filtration, which wilt remove any paticutates
that might be sourced within the mitre void, or in any sampling well. Dissolved
analysis measures the mobile metal and other constituents in the water sample,
and is therefore the appropriate measure for this project.
2. Surface Water. Surface water iux the vicinity of the Cash Mine is sourced from a
mineralized district. Any particulates in the water must come £rom erosion of the
surface material, which may well be mineralized. Any water in the surface flow
that is sourced in the mine (which is zero discharge) must come through the
groundwater flow system, and will therefore not contain any particulates due to
the filtration effect. Accordingly, monitoring of the mine's effect on the surface
water downgradient should monitor the dissolved metal and other constituents.
Each monitoring point will have its specific baseline. The interim baseline for the MW-1
monitoring well was presented in Table 2. Any parameters not specified within the
baseline were below detectable limits, therefore Agricultural quality limits would prevail.
This baseline shall be modified, following five (S) quarters of baseline data recorded
fzom the well post-completion (as proposed).
