S

NOTICE OF PROPOSED DECISION
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes to Approve Technical Revision Application
No. 38 (TR-38) for the Bowie Mine No. 1 (Permit No. C-1981-038), submitted by Bowie Resources
Limited. Approval of this revision would permit the drilling of one methane monitoring drill hole and [he
construction of its associated light use road. The monitoring hole location is in the vicinity of the west
mine and will be used to monitor the pressure within the Bowie No. 1 mine underground workings. The
proposed drill pad and road are located on Bureau of Land Management land within Federal Coal Lease
C-37210, in Sections 15, 22, and 23 of T13S. R92W. The 6 inch diameter drill hole will be
approximately 770 feet deep. The light use road will be 16 feet wide and 2300 feet in length. The total
disturbance of the drill pad and road will be about 1.2 acres, with silt fence being utilized for sediment
control. The drill hole and the road will be reclaimed after use.
The Bowie Mine No. 1 is an underground coal mine located in Delta County, approximately 3 miles north
of Paonia, Colorado. Coal interest is Federal and private, and the surface affected is Federal and private
land. The permit area encompasses approximately 8,670.00 acres.
This proposed decision is based on a finding that the proposed operation will comply with all
requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, Section 34-33-101, er seq., C.R.S.,
and the regulations promulgated thereunder.
Copies of the proposed decision, including stipulations, are on file for public inspection at the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver,
Colorado 80203. Persons with an interestthat may be adversely affected by the proposed decision may
request a formal hearing before [he Mined Land Reclamation Board on the proposed decision. Such
request must be made within ten (]0) days of the initial publication of this notice, must be in writing, and
must state with reasonable specificity the reasons for the request and the objections to the proposed
decision.
