We appreciate the opportunity to review these
applications only as they relate to the South Platte River.
We have the following comments to offer:
It has always been a concern of the District with the original mine owners and
now with Denver Water that setbacks from the South Platte River bank be in
accordance with the publication "Technical Review Guidelines for Gravel
Mining.Activities Within or Adjacent to 100-Year Floodplains" (Guidelines).
And in fact, it was our understanding that Adams County had required the owner
of the Road Runners Rest II Pit to comply with at least a 100-foot setback. This
amendment plan does not appear to provide for the minimum 100-foot setback
as called for in the Guidelines.
Ken reumen
Gryaavaaa ~
Douglas GerrMt
CNy of Erpbweed
B H. The First Creek Major Drainageway Planning Study shows existing and future
flows in First Creek being intercepted by the upstream Howe-Haller pit. It is
our understanding that LaFarge, the Howe-Haller mining operator, is in the
process of designing inflow and outflow structures to accommodate First Creek
in their pit as required by their reclamation permit. This future outfall to the
South Platte River may ultimately pass through Reclamation Pit No. 1. We
sprlbryanWnthony Waldren
