SOMERSET MINING COMPANY
October 19, 1990
Kathy Dolan
Colorado Department of Health
Permits and Enforcement Section
4210 East 11th Avenue
Denver, Colorado 80220-3716
Re: CDPS Permit No. CO-0000132;
Minor Modification Request;
Dear Ms. Dolan:
Somerset Mining Company has applied to the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Division for a permit revision to allow for the
construction of new mine portals about one mile east of the
existing mine facilities. The new mine plan provides for an
additional sedimentation pond and a new mine caster discharge
point.
Somerset Mining Company's CDPS discharge permit is currently
in the renewal process. In accordance with Part II, Section 5.
of the permit, please relocate one outfall and add one outfall to
the permit as explained below.
Outfall 001 was the discharge point in Bear Canyon for mine
dewatering. Water is no longer being pumped from the Somerset
Mine into Bear Canyon. Somerset Mining Company requests that
Outfall 001 be relocated, for the neca mine, to a point just east
of Sanborn Creek. The quality and quantity of water pumped from
the new mine will be similar to that pumped from the Somerset
Mine into Bear Canyon.
The neca mine plan also provides for an additional sedimenta-
tion pond. Somerset Mining Company requests that and new Outfall
011 be added to the permit to provide for this point source
discharge. The location of this new sediment pond is just west
of Sanborn Creek.
The location of all twelve of the outt'alls is shown on the
two enclosed maps. Please let me know if you have any questions
regarding this minor modification request.
Sincerely,
~~~/,~
David J. Hurr
Member, Management Committee
cc: F. R.
