Due to
the large initial disturbance caused by the construction activates
during 1980 - 1982, the resident wildlife populations have moved off
the disturbed areas or to areas adjacent to the Colony property that
are not being affected.
After the major decrease in construction activity in May of 1982, and
within a short time period thereafter, deer were browsing on both dis-
turbed and undisturbed lands on the Colony property. The presence of
~ these deer indicates that the resident deer populations were minimally
displaced. They have not migrated from the Colony Project area.
The small mammal populations have been disturbed more drastically, in-
asmuch as their habitat was directly disturbed or destroyed in areas
under construction. However, the small mammals have been repopulating
the disturbed areas.
The overall impact of the project on wildlife has been decreased by the
reduction in activity at the project site. Since the accelerated revege-
tation program has been initiated, the effect on wildlife, especially
deer, should be minimal and of a relatively short duration.
