as
zzoKs
on-Site Activities
The reoommerded alternative sP.ci;~*+t control strategy for the Bourg Mice is
to oontimie ~;~;*~ reclamation practices, coupled with slope length and slope
shape modifications. This study showed that past rx+rl motion prdCti.CeS
significantly reduced soil erosica~ when compared to tmdistini~ed azeas of similaz
slope.
The t,rriial~,riYx9 soil lass averaged 4.57 tans/acre/year, while the reclaimed
soils had a calculated soil lass of 2.99 tons/acre/year. When the erasion
control practice factor (P) is included, reclaimed soil erosion is decreased to
1.74 tans/acre/year. The erosion control practice factor is due to contour
furrow plowing and seedir-g. The proposed alternative sediment control strategy
has been designed to be cronservative and will include ooattour furrow plowing with
seeding as well as benches to limit slope lerxlth. Soil erosion from the
reClalm2d sOilS W111 be minimi2ed t0 the extent possible.
On-site activities include:
1) Topsoils will be replaced on all overiJUrden materials. The final
p~tp~g Will ~ desicr~d tp minimi Ze COIIVPX ar?aS, and mini mi Ze the
opportunity for c3~armelized flow. The final contours proposed here
have the same volume as the original final contour map.
2) Benches will be cut with a slight inslope (2-4 peroaJtt) on all
reclaimed soils. These benches will limit slope lerxJth and i*Y^*pa~
lrifiltratlon (Table 8). ~TM'}+~ will be cut by walki*m a Cat normal
to the slope. The benches will follow the oontas and are not meant
to convey water. The benches will be disoontiruous because of
varying slopes. The final oontatrs wi11 have an average slope of 6
percent. The gropoeed slope length will be 200 feet, which is
conservative. The lower slopes may have longer slope lengths.
3) Fall fertilizing and mulching will be as planned.
4) Dri11 seeding normal to the slope wi11 be as planned.
