Canopy and gxniu~d cover subfactors can be calculated ; ~.,,iP.,r~y
for each ttarLSect.
1
Conservation Practice Factor (Pl
r The conservation practice factor (P) is the ratio of soil loss under a
specified Conservation practice to the standa*T3 situation. Typical Conservation
practices axe Contouring, strip QaPP~g, and terracing. For most wildlarrl
situations there axe no Lion practices, but on reclaimed soils
conservation practices may be incorporated. 'Ihe ooa~sexvation practice factor, P,
~, is often used in agricultural ~**;*~ to aocoimt for erosion-prevention mPacn*,ac
suds as contouring and terracing. A unit value of 1 is assigned to P when no
Conservation practices are implemented.
Soil Loss 'tblerance fT1
After all input variables have been calculated for the USIE, average annual
soil lass can be estimated. the estimated soil lass values (A) can be aanpar~ed
to the soil loss tolerance (T) for that site and erosion es~ as a percent
of allo~rable soil loss (AfP) . T~ralues are generally provided in Canty soil
surveys, arri are generally a function of plant rooting depth.
If the estimated soil lass values exceed the soil loss tolerance of a site
(AST exceeds 100 percent) . ~n+~ should be taken to n,rrw i i the intensity or
kind of land use or implement rehabilitation practioPS.
r
