Long <br />, Division Direnor <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C-80-007) <br />Permit Revision Application No. 8 <br />Box Canyon Permit Revision <br />Dear Delta County Planning Department: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section l 18, <br />Paragraph I, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on March 11, 1998, a permit revision application for a permit <br />to conduct coal mining operations, Permit No. C-80-007 by Mountain Coal Company (MCC), was considered <br />complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Coal <br />Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and Regulations of thz Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal <br />Mining initiate from this date of filing. <br />With this permit revision, MCC proposes to add approximately 1,743 acres to their permit area. The revision <br />proposes to add the remainder of the Box Canyon Federal coal lease (COC-56447) area to MCC's current permit area. <br />No surface facilities are proposed with this revision. MCC only proposes to incorporate additional mining area. <br />The underground coal mining operation is located approximately 9 miles east of Paonia. Colorado. The permit area <br />is further described as follows: <br />Portions or all of Sections 9, 10, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 2?, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 34, 35, and 36, Township <br />13 South, Range 90 West of the 6th P.M.; and portions or all of Sections 23, 24, 25, and 26, Township 13 South, <br />Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Somerset and Bowie. <br />A copy of the revision application is available for public inspection at the Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder's <br />Office.
