Insure the berm has
3 to 1 slopes so that seeding can take place. Seed the berm with a
mixture of 50$ Ephraim Crested Wheatgrass and 50$ Sodar Streambank
Wheatgrass. Seed at the following rates:
Ephraim Crested Wheatgrass 5 lbs/acre pure live seed
Sodar Streambank Wheatgrass 6 lbs/acre pure live seed
Double these rates if broadcasted.
In order to establish and maintain the grass stand, an irrigation
system will need to be established to sprinkle irrigate the berm.
Plant three rows of trees between the berm and the property boundary.
Begin 10 feet inside fence and plant Austree in Row 1, Rocky Mountain
Juniper in Row 2 and Lilac in Row 3. Space the rows as shown on
sketch sheet. Plant the Austrees at a spacing of 12 feet apart within
the row, Juniper 10 feet apart within the row and the Lilac 5 feet
apart within the row. The trees will need to be irrigated to
establish and maintain them. The Austree requires a good amount of
water, therefore furrow irrigation is preferred. The Rocky Mountain
Juniper and Lilac could be set up on a drip irrigation system. A weed
barrier fabric should be used on each row to control weeds around the
trees. A four foot wide barrier should be used for the furrow
irrigated trees and a six foot wide barrier for the drip irrigated
trees.
Alternative #2
Same as alternative #1 except move toe of berm to about 15 feet of
fence and plant two rows (Rocky Mountain Juniper and Lilac) on the
berm. These rows would require drip irrigation to establish and
maintain trees. See sketch drawing for row spacing and location.
All grass seeding and tree planting should be done in accordance with
standard and specification 342 (Critical Area Planting) and 380
(Farmstead Windbreak). These are attached for your review.
