All subunits have the same applicable success standards.
Subunits will be sampled separately and compared to the reference
area jointly on an acreage-weighted basis as described in the
Division's draft Phase II guidelines.
PARAMETERS TO BE ESTIMATED:
1. Total vegetative cover
- will be estimated using an optical point frame
developed by ESCO Associates.
- point sitings will be located along a 50 meter transect
stretched out either northwest, northeast, southwest, or southeast
of the sample location (the direction will be randomly selected
from the four possibilities).
- the 50 points per transect (one point at each meter
interval) will comprise a single sample unit.
- cover will be identified by plant species, or as rock,
litter, or bare ground.
- for the purposes of estimating total vegetative cover,
only first hit data will be used.
- During the 1992 study, voucher specimens were collected
and confirmed or identified by Dr. William A. Weber, retired
Curator of the University of Colorado herbarium. Voucher specimens
for species not encountered in 1992 will be collected in 1994.
- nomenclature will follow Dr. Weber's book Colorado
Flora: Western Slope (1987).
