The
only issue) for staff is the increase in lake size from 4.22 to 5.2 acres. The increase in size itself
is not an issue, but the additional exposure of 0.98 acres of groundwater is. The County has a
couple of options in regard to the additional water exposure: A} demonstrate that there are
sufficient water rights already in place to cover the additional exposure or not required at all, or
B} reduce; the final configuration of the lake back to 4.22 acres by filling in additional area, or C}
Another :scenario if water rights must be secured is to commit to keeping the pit at approximately
4.22 acres until documentation verifying the additional evaporation has been supplied to the
Division.
Rio Blanco County should respond as quickly as possible to ensure that staff has time to review
the respl~nse and render a Decision no later than July 15`n
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970.241.1117.
Sincereiy, ,
-~%iJ
G.
