Simpson, Deputy State Engineer {~.Y~ - ~-
SUBJECT: Industrial Resources, Inc. Amendment, Nahcolite Solution Mine
Project, M-83-194, Sec. 26, T1S, R98W
As requested, we have reviewed the above referenced application to mine
Nahcolite in the Piceance Creek Basin, on 37.1 acres, 25 miles SW of Meeker,
Colorado in Rio Blanco County. The mining operation consists of injecting hot
water into six wells, circulation of the fluid, and recovery of the saturated
solution. The water is then recycled.
Industrial Resources, Inc. proposes a well as the source of water used in the
operation. IRI should file for a well permit. Also, a well permit is
required for the recovery well or wells. Since the operation is located in an
area that is over-appropriated, a plan for augmentation would be required
before well permits could be issued.
We have no problems with the proposed project as long as IRI obtains well
permits for the water supply and recovery wells. The six injection wells
should be permitted by the E.P.A. prior to their construction.
HDS/JCM:pdt/5531H
cc: Wesley Signs, Div.
