Depth to unto^solidateU sand <br />and gravel is .0 to 36 iaches. <br />Dacono loam, 0 to 1 percent slopes IDoA).-This soil <br />has the profile described s represeutative for the series. <br />It contains 5 to 15 percent gravel in the surface lacer <br />and subsoil, and it has a scud and gravel layer bettreen <br />depths of 20 and 40 iaches. Runoff is slop-. The hazard <br />of water erosimr is slight, but the hazard of soil blow- <br />ing is moderate if fields are not protected by crops or <br />residue. Included in mapping at•e some small areas of <br />Satana loam and a few small gravel spots. <br />Nearly all of this soil is cultivated and irrigated. The <br />soil is easy to till and is well suited to truck farming <br />(fig. 8). Capability trait IIIs-3, irrigated; not placed in <br />a range site; tree planting suitability group 1. <br />Dacono loam, I to 3 percent slopes IDoBI•-This soil <br />has a profile that is similar to file one described as rep- <br />resentative for the series, but it has a thinner surface <br />layer and subsoil. Runoff is medium, and the hazard of <br />water erosion is moderate. The hazard of soil blon•ing is <br />moderate in unprotected fields. <br />Most of the soil is cultivated and irrigated. Some of <br />the steeper areas are used for irrigated pasture. Cap- <br />ability unit IIIe-2, irrigated; not placed in a range site; <br />tree planting suitability group 1. <br />Deertrail Series <br />13 <br />The Deerh•ail series cmtsists of well-drained, nearly <br />level soils on uplands. These soils formed in Ivind-de- <br />positcd loam}' material Lt _ldanr County, they occur <br />only in a complex With ll"eld soils. <br />In a represenuttire profile, the surface laver is light <br />grayish-brown cer\ fine sutdy loam and loam about <br />0 inches [hick. It is noncalcareous. The upper part of <br />the subsoil is brnn'n ant! light brow Wish-gi.~y clay about <br />L inches thin:. It is nmuulrrreous. "I'he lower part of <br />the subsoil is very pale brown ailty c(ay loam about I1 <br />inches thick. It is highl}' salcnrcous, and much of the <br />lime is vis-iblc as streaks- and spots. The underlying ma- <br />terial, below a depth of 33 inches, is highly calcareous, <br />very pale bronn loam. <br />Deertrail soils absorb water slowly, and the available <br />Hater capacity is vet}' low. Perhicability- is slow.
