Since thedata is incomplete, please commit to providing final
test results and developing mitigation measures if the test results
indicate any problems.
Two samples of tailings were tested as part of the geochemical testing
program for the San Luis Project. Sample L396.4-2.0 was an as-received
sample of the tailings solids which was submitted to a batch test and a
humidity cell test. Sample L396.4-2.1 was a sample which was rinsed with
rain water to simulate long term conditions of the tailings {i.e. after
all added buffering capabilities have been leached from the tailings). This
sample was also subjected to batch and humidity cell, testing.
Humidity cell testing for the San Luis tailings is currently longoing. On
the basis of the test results to date, BMR believes that no additional
mitigation measures are necessary. BMR will submit the final results of
the data to the Division. If the Division determines that a potential for
acid production or toxicity conditions exist, BMR will submit appropriate
mitigation plans within 30 days of the request for Division view and
approval.
The data for the amount of sulfuric acid to be stored on s1.e ,resented
in Attachment T differs from the data presented in the finerge, tcy Re:,ponse
Plan. Please clarify.
Battle Mountain Resources is currently developing preliminary mill facility
designs and performing a preliminary evaluation of equipment availability
and needs. Based on this evaluation, a standard tank size of 10,000 gallons
is expected to be used at the San Luis Project instead of the tank size
of 6,500 gallons discussed in the emergency response plan. The sulfuric
dtid tank will be designed for full containment in the unlikely event of
a tank leak or rupture. Containment of the sulfuric acid tank will be
separated from other containment provided in the mill design.
4. What corresponding volumes of spills will be detoxified by the amounts of
reagents stored on site?
Assuming a conservative ratio of 7 pounds of hypochlorite to detoxify 1
pound of sodium cyanide.
oz
2,000 lbs hypochlorite/7 pounds to detoxify 1 pound of cyanide - 285.7
pounds of cyanide detoxified.
