UPDATED MINING PLAN
11/3/83
The La Plata County Gravel Pit-Ignacio is an existing open pit
gravel mine. A gravel crusher has previously been used at this site
on many occassions and will be used in the future. La Plata County
does not own a gravel crusher. Therefore, contracts are executed with
crusher operators to move into the mine and crush the required quantities
of gravel under the supervision of La Plata County. Pfining of this pit
will be conducted by first stripping any overburden material ~:lear of
the gravel and stockpiling the overburden for future reclamation use.
This stripping procedure will be done with a crawler type tra~:tor that
is equipped with a dozer blade. Material uncovered will then be fed
into the crusher with a front end loader. Processed gravel wi:Ll then be
stockpiled at the site for future use. It will be hauled to the various
job sites by 56,000 GVW tandem dump trucks.
La Plata County intends to commence mining operations at once and
continue for an undetermined number of years. Mining will generally be
proceeding in a northerly and northeasterly direction. Future mining will
not be conducted in southerly direction since the dedicated easement
access road cannot be disturbed. It appears possible to extreict approx-
imately seven (7) feet of additional gravel vertically in the existing
mined area without encountering excessive amounts of shale.
