CONTROL PRACTICE FACTOR (P)
This factor is used to identify those soil conservation and tillage practices which affect
the level of sediment generated from a site (e. g., terraces, cross slope tillage, contour
planting). In this comparison we aze interested in the sediment generated from
reclaimed or revegetated sites and undisturbed sites where these practices would have
no special impact on soil loss at this time. Therefore, for the purposes of our
comparison, a value of unity (one) will be assigned this factor, rendering no impact to
our calculations.
III. RESULTS
LISLE CALCULATIONS
Based on our assigned factor values, soil loss was calculated for each of the reclaimed,
revegetated, and undisturbed azeas. Results are presented in Table 3. In each case,
soil loss from the reclaimed or revegetated area was calculated to be less than that
expected from the adjacent undisturbed area.
IV. CONCLUSIONS
The results of the LISLE calculations show that the reclaimed or revegetated areas at the
Lone Pine Gulch Surface Facilities Area and Water Tank Site produce less sediment
than the adjacent undisturbed oakbrush or sagebrush areas. The calculated values from
the LISLE comparison of undisturbed and reclaimed areas verifies what is expected in
this case and also what has been seen at other reclaimed sites in Colorado. Based on
the results of the soil loss analysis, the reclaimed and revegetated areas aze eligible for
removal of silt fence sediment control structures.

-6-
