The upslope drainage control consists of the adjacent access road. <br />Daylighting of groundwater from the underlying bedrock is nonexistent. <br />Slone Stability <br />The tailings pond is underlain and enclosed byhorizontally-dipping, moderately <br />fractured, thickly bedded, Entrada Sandstone (Figures 2 and 3). Fused grain boundaries <br />and silicification cause it to be relatively impermeable. Projections of the No. 1 and No. <br />3 faults from the underground workings pass 20 feet west and 110 feet east of the tailings <br />pond, respectively (Plate 1). The thickness of the talus (depth to bedrock) on the <br />surrounding hillside vanes between 2 and 4 feet. As a result of the tailings pond being <br />situated upon bedrock, sediment loading is not anticipated to be a problem. Although the <br />overlying talus creeps gradually downslope, movement of the underlying material is <br />imperceptible. Consequently, the slope stability is deemed to be acceptable. <br />
