Dudash
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie #2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083) Permit Revision Application #] 0 (PR-10)
Revise B-Seam Mine Plan: Expand Mine to the North (CHS #40566)
Deaz Mr. Dudash:
Thank you for your correspondence dated Mazch 14, 2006 (received by our office on March 15)
concerning the project listed above, located in Sections 33 and 34'of Township 12 South, Range 91
West.
A seazch of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory indicates that a portion of the proposed
permit revision area has recently been surveyed for cultural resources and one cultural resource that
is potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is located within or very
neaz the azea of the proposed permit revision. On February 3, 2006 our office found that additional
information was necessary to determine the NRHP eligibility of site SDT1326 (a prehistoric camp).
Also located within the azea of the proposed permit revision is site SDT1325 (the Dove Creek
Historic Shelter), which was determined not eligible for the NRHP by our office on October 27,
2000. Our files contain incomplete information for this area, as most of Colorado has not yet been
inventoried for cultural resources. There is the possibility that as yet unidentified cultural resources
exist within the proposed permit area.
However, since this permit revision is concerned with an expansion of underground mining
activities and no new surface disturbance is planned, we find there will be no effect to cultural
resources.
Should unidentified archaeological resources be discovered in the course of the project, work must be
interrupted until the resources have been evaluated in terms of the National Register of Historic
Places eligibility criteria (36 CFR 60.4) in consultation with our office.
Bowie #2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083) Permit Revision Application #10 {PR-10)
Revise B-Seam Mine Plan: Expand Mine to the North (CHS #40566)
