MEMO
Date: Apri126, 2007
From: Tom Kaldenbach~K
To: File
Coal Ridge Mine (C-1984-065)
MR-24
Re: Summary of Technical Adequacy Review
I find the MR-24 application ready for approval, based on my review of the application
and the operator's responses to my adequacy comments. The responses included the map
and changes to text in the permit application, as I requested. As noted by the operator, the
produced water will have chemical content similar to water that would have been
produced by the coal mine. The operator's handling of the produced water will be within
the jurisdiction of CWQCD, like any other water produced from coalbed methane wells
in the state. Minimal seepage is expected from the pond. The plan to maintain 1.2 feet
minimum freeboard would prevent contamination of surface soils with salty water. The
reclamation plan for the pond has not been changed. No surface disturbance is planned;
therefore, there is no increase in reclamation liability.
