Figure lA shows the location of the site investigation area. r~r im upon the amount of
' work required, one or more test pits will be excavated in the area. One pit will ret;uire a
dozer to rn-o~ a bench for the backhoe. However, as stated above topsoil will be salvaged
nom the area prior to ~~cing bench construction or pit excavation. The bench and pit
ill be backfilled when no longer needed. The pit areas will be backfilled and the topsoil
will be redistributed aryl seeded with the rargelard seed mixture. Drainage frmn the area is
controlled by Pond D.
Ditch D-1 will be te~ararily rerouted in fr®n of the lobe facility to allow for better
working condition. After the site project has been completed it will be returned to its
original location.
In order to o~lete the site investigation a number of shallow monitoring wells were
installed to delineate the extent of diesel plume. In addition to the existing wells two
additional wells will be cm~leted in the area. The approximate location of the wells are
shown on Figure 10, Investigation Site Area. If required, additional holes may be drilled
and the wells constructed in them.
The wells will be drilled with a mobile auger rig, and as such, no road work is anticipated.
If a road is required the topsoil will be bladed to the side and temporarily stockpiled.
ter the work is o~q~leted the topsoil would be redistributed over the road.
The wells will range in depth from approximately 20-80 feet. The wells will be constructed
of 2 or 4 inch PVC. Normal monitoring aryl construction procedures will be used when the
wells are built, e.e. use of clean gravel pads, correctly sized screen, and surface plug.
When the wells are no longer needed the wells will be plugged with grout. The wells will be
cut off three feet below grade arri then grouted from the bottom up. Zhis plugging procedure
applies to all of the wells at the site.
Railroad
The railroad track was extended approximately 300 feet in 1987. The details of the extension
are enumerated within Minor Revision 87-12.
•
MR 90-71 Permit Renewal 780-30-3 Revised 07/30/91
