Field Aooroval of Two New Monitoring Wells: Mines 1. 2,
and Eckman Park. Permit C-81-071
Enclosed please find the information being submitted to satisfy the stipulations of the above referenced
field approval. As previously discussed, the purpose of the monitoring wells is to determine the extent
of the hydrocarbonplume from the Tube facility. Two wells were drilled, EF91-A and EF91-B, both
of which are designated on revised Figure 10 (enclosed). Well EF91-A consists of a 2" OD PVC casing
reaching to a depth of 77 feet, with a perforated interval of 57-77 feet. Sand was placed around the
casing from 77 to 52 feet, which was then capped with 2 feet of bentonite pellets. This in turn was
capped with abentonite/cement grout mixture to ground surface. The upright of the casing is protected
by a 3 foot tall, 6 inch pipe with a locking lid.
Well EF 91-B also consists of a 2 inch OD PVC casing, with a total depth of 31.5 feet and perforated
interval of 31.5 to 11.5 feet. Sand was placed from 31.5 to 10 feet, capped with 2 feet of bentonite
pellets, and completed to ground surface using bentonite/cement grout mixture. Again, the upright of
the casing is protected with a length of 6 inch pipe with a locking lid. Permit Renewal page 780-30-3
has been revised to reflect these additional wells, and is enclosed. Page 780-141(ja shows the bonding
calculation involved with the addition of the two wells. Given the amount by which CYCC is currently
overbonded, and the insignificant amount involved with the reclaiming of the two wells, I do not think
that an increase in the existing bond is warranted at this time.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
~~i~l~~~~~iz~Gl~
Marcus A.
