Mr. Gregg Squire
TETRATECH RMC September 20, 2005
Page 3
5. Regarding Note 5 on the maps, any temporary stockpiles must also be outside the offsets
required for slope stability.
Note 4 (previously Note 5) was modified. It now reads, "Temporary stockpiles are not
shown. They will vary in size and shape and will be located inside the disturbance boundary
of each phase and outsides the offsets required for slope stability."
6. Based upon the applicant's decision to only incorporate discharge of water to the South
Platte River in this amendment appldcation, Note 10 is no longer applicable and must be
removed from the maps.
Note 9 (previously Note 10) was modified. It now reads, "Prior to crossing the Lupton
Bottom Ditch and Brighton Ditch, Lafarge will obtain all necessary agreements. Lafarge will
discharge into the South Platte River only unless there is an agreement in place with the
Ditch companies."
Note 11 and the note marking the 400' from-top-of-streambank boundary could be
interpreted to mean that only submission of a bank stability plan or analysis to the Division
is necessary to mine within this area. Please clarify these statements to indicate that
anyroval of such a plan by the Division is necessary to comply with Stipulation No. I of the
permit. Additionally, as noted in the April 22, 2005 adequacy review, aJlood analysis and
,flood control plan must be submitted to and approved by the Division prior to mining within
400' of the top of the South Platte riverbank.
Note 11 was modified. It now reads, "Per Stipulation 1, prior to mining within 400' of the
Platte River, Lafarge will submit a Bank Stabilization Plan; Flood Analysis; and Flood
Control Plan to the DMG for approval. Mining with 400' of the South Platte River will not
occur until the DMG has approved a Bank Stabilization Plan; Flood Analysis and Flood
Control Plan." In addition, a hatch pattern has been added to the plans to identify the area
between the 200' and 400' offsets from the South Platte River. In the Legend this hatch
pattern represents areas where no mining will occur without DMG approval of a South Platte
River Bank Stabilization Study.
8. Please be reminded that the final maps will require qualified signatures per Rule 6.2.1(2)(b).
Tom Leidich with Lafarge will provide the necessary signature for the final maps as required
per Rule 6.2.1(2)(b).
Sincerely,
TETRA TECH RMC, INC.
~~ ~
Sarah Foster, E.I.T.
Project Engineer
U~-~z~
Tom Hesemann, R.G., C.E.G.
Operating Unit Leader
Enclosures
H:\4137_012_02\Responses to Adequacy Review 4.doc
