E~~.4
S Coal company
Seneca Coal Company
August 7, 2002
Mr. Mike Boulay
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273
(303) 866-3567
Re: Yoast Mine Permit C-94-082
Minor Revision 17 (MR-17)
~iECE1VED
AUG 0 9 2002
Division of Minerals and GeofoBY
Dear Mr. Boulay,
Enclosed please find three (3) copies of an application for Minor Revision (MR-17) to the Yoast Mine
Permit C-94-082. This minor revision requests approval for the construction of a temporary access road
and approval Lo drill two (2) coal exploration drill holes.
The temporary access road would be utilized to facilitate removal of sediment from Pond 010. Based on
guidelines and design, the sediment pond must have sediment removed periodically in order to function as
required. Therefore, based on visual inspection, the dme has come to remove sediment from Pond 010 in
order to maintain sufficient volume for water storage and handling.
The proposed location is within the currently pemutted disturbance boundary for the Yoast Mine,
however, any topsoil encountered along the proposed alignment will be salvaged for use in reclaiming the
road. Attached is Exhibit 13-11.6, Pond 010 Temporary Access Road, indicating the proposed location,
typical cross-section, and vertical profile of the temporary road.
Seneca also requests approval to drill two (2) exploration drill holes outside of the active mining area. The
purpose of these two holes is to verify and/or determine the presence and continuity of select coal seams
and to recover core samples for sampling and characterization.
The currently approved bond amount for fhe Yoast Mine is $4,308,467, however there is $4,600,000 held
by the Division. Therefore there is sufficient funds in the current bond to cover the limited additional
disturbance requested in this Minor Revision.
Enclosed are the requued application form, insertion instmctions, and the revised/updated text. Should
you or any other member of the Division have questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate
to contact me @ (970) 276-5106.
Since n
R ~ert J.
