Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 18, 2005, an application to revise coal mining
operations at the Trapper Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by
Trapper Mining Inc. All review ;md comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this
date of filing.
The operator proposed to leave twenty-five ponds as permanent structures. These ponds would provide water for
livestock and wildlife and would support the post-mining land-use of Rangeland. The following ponds, are
proposed for retention: No Name #2, 4, and 5, Johnson 6, 7R, 8R, 9R, and 1 OR, West Pyeatt I and 2, East Pyeatt
1, 2, and 3, Grouse 1 and 2, Oak land I and 2; West Flume I, Middle Flume 1, East Middle Flume I, East Flume 1,
Deer 1, Ute I, Horse Gulch I.
The Surface coal mining operation is on land located approximately 6 miles South of Craig, Colorado. The permit
area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 1, 2, and 3, Township 5 North, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
Portions of Sections 30 and 3 I, Township 6th North, Range 90 West of the 6th P.M.
Portions of Sections 25, 26, 28, 33, 34, 35, and 36, Township 6 North, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Castor Gulch.
Because the above referenced technical revision application would alter previously approved permit conditions or
mitigation measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns
relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation
plan as it relates to fish and wildlife considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered
species, are requested.
