STATE, OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 275
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
March 21, 2002
Mike Kolin
Greystone Development Consultants, Inc.
5231 South Quebec Street
Englewood, CO 80111
RE: Technical Revision No. 8 (TR-08)
Lorencito Canyon Mine, #C-96-084
Initial Adequacy Review, Fill 5 and 8 Enlargement
Dear Mr. Kolin:
DIVISION OF
MINERALS
GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION
MINiNG•SA FE7Y
Bill Owens
Governor
Greg E. Watcher
Executive Director
Michael B. Lang
Division Director
The Division of Minerals and Geology has completed an initial review of the materials received
March 19, 2002 for Technical Revision #8 (TR-08), Fill 5 and 8 Enlagement for the Lorencito
Canyon Mine. Due to the signifcant changes to the cost estimate, the Division will need
additional time to review that portion of the submittal. For any necessary revised information
submitted as a result of this review, please submit two copies of all revised materials.
1. Revised SEDCAD+ for pond 006a and Figure EX 15-9a is adequate. However, the
Division did not receive a current SEDCAD+ design run for the 25-year storm event for
pond 006a. Please submit this information consistent with Figure EX 15-9a.
2. Ditch D96, D97, D98, and D99 aze not included on the Jeff Canyon Surface Mine -Fill
Areas -Ditch Summazy. Please correct as necessary.
3. Ditch D76 should extend entirely around the "Mined ridge" on Figure EX 15-15. Please
correct as necessary.
4. Fill 8 is classified as a valley fill by definition and in Exhibit 13 of the permit. Drainage
from above the fill and from the fill must by directed to diversion ditches that can safely
pass the 100-yeaz storm event (Rule 4.09.2(7)). Ditches D81 and D82 are not located
above the fiIl but are in fact on the fill itself. Drainage from the area above the annotated
plan view contour of the N seam outcrop must be diverted azound the fill to sediment
pond 8. Ditches D81 and D82 will still likely be required to prevent flow over the face of
the fill (Rule 4.09.2(5)). Please correct as necessary.
