Box 518
Somerset, CO 81434
Re: Bear Mine No. 3, File No. C-81-033, MR-17
Dear Mr. Bear:
°~ Coco
,~~ R
o
<b
..
~ IB]6 ~
Roy Ramer
Governor
Michael B. Long
Division Dueuor
The Division has reviewed your application for Minor Revision No. 17 to Permit No. C-81-033.
The revision addresses a mine plan change for the Bear Mine No. 3 B-Seam and also adds dates
that mining occurred in the prior B-Seam mining process.
The Division has issued a proposed decision to approve the revision (decision form attachedl.
The mine plan change was allowed to be addressed as a minor revision due to the limited areal
extent and the orientation of the revised plan. The proposed panels and main are located in
areas that were previously approved in mine plans for the Bear Mine No. 3 B-Seam, but were
subsequently deleted from the present plan for one reason or another.
Subsidence reports indicate that preceding mining has not created slope stability or subsidence
problems above the Bear Mine No. 3 workings. The area where the proposed main and panels
are located is considered to be more stable than areas previously undermined without
significant impacts.
Because the proposed first north mains have been truncated on the north end, the Division no
longer limits mining in these mains to development mining only. It is also understood that
retreat mining will probably not occur, as Bear Coal plans to use these mains for access to
additional coal reserves in the future.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
cQ~ ~`~EJ`~/~ /.
Steve S.
