has filed an application with the Colorado Department of Mines and Geology for a Phase I
Reclamation Bond Release for its Eastside Mine. The Eastside Mine is located in Section 24, TSS,
R92W and Section 19, TSS, R91 W, 6th P.M., Garfield County, Colorado, more specifically
described as follows:
Commencing from a point which bears S6° 25' 08"W, 483' +/- from the NE corner of
section 24: thence south a distance of 905' +/-; thence S89° 27' 34"E a distance of
2,650' +/-; thence south a distance of 97S' +/-; thence west a distance of 4,160' +/-;
thence south a distance of 395' +/-; thence west a distance of 740' +/-;, thence NS° 23'
22"E a distance of 2,662' +/-; thence S80° 04' 26"E a distance of 2,030' +/- to the
point of beginning.
The underground mining operation is located approximately 3.75 miles north of Silt, Colorado.
Access to the site is via Garfield County Road 237. The reclaimed area is approximately 1500 feet
south of the Grass Valley Reservoir. The Silt Quadrangle, 7.5 minute series, contains the area
described above.
Eastside Coal Company has completed the facility removal, portal sealing and regrading of its
Eastside Mine facility area during June and July, 1995. The regraded area has been covered with
approved growing medium. The diversion and collection ditches and the sediment pond have been
left in place. The affected area is approximately 3 acres. The permittee is Eastside Coal Company.
The permit number is C-84-063 which was approved on January 14, 1985. The first renewal was
approved on January 14, 1990. The second permit renewal is pending. Eastside Coal Company
has a $ 74,280.00 reclamation bond which is a Certificate of Deposit. Eastside Coal Company is
applying for a bond release of $ 44,568.00 which is 60 % of the bond.
A copy of the permit is available for public inspection at the Garfield County Courthouse,
Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Colorado Department of Mines and Geology, Denver,
Colorado.
