WuY W~
RE~C~~VED
!JUN 042001
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
Fremont County Board of Planning and Zoning
Mike Toelle, Holcim manager
Dear sirs,
~~~~~
G~i~ 9
I just want to point out for the final time that the Colorado Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety as well as the Fremont County Boazd of Planning and Zoning
have been told n merous times with Coaldale residents' letters and phone calls that there
is a major disc epancy in the permit application concerning the depth of the groundwater
near the Coaldale gypsum mine. The permit application states that the water depth is over
158 ft. deep and therefore will not be affected by blasting in 30 ft. deep blasting holes.
Yet at the public meeting held in Coaldale on April 10, 2007 Holcim's representatives
stated that they know the water depth in this area is less than 100 ft. but the well owners
had nothing to worry about.
If the permit is granted and the water wells of the 19 properties which are adjacent to the
mine's property are adversely affected due to Holcim's blasting you can rest assured the
matter will be handed over to competent environmental attorneys in Denver who want to
handle this case. I expect that not only Holcim but also the state of Colorado will be held
liable £or ignoring this obvious discrepancy in the permit application process. Thank you.
Sincerely,
/~ ~-~/~°-c/
Richard Carney
P.O. Box 254
~~~111 Coaldale, CO 81222
