cumulative impacts on the Nokomis fritillary will not occur. This project will not
impact the viability of the species, or result in a trend of Nokomis fritillary towards
federal listing.
Sensitive Species- Plants
Rocky Mountain or Adobe Thistle: This species is found on disturbed sites in Adobe
clays derived from Mancos Shale {Bradford per. comm.) at elevations between 4,500 and
7,000 feet. This plant has been found during surveys conducted at other sites in the North
Fork Valley. In those instances the plants were always located in Adobe clays on
disturbed sites.
There is suitable Rocky Mountain thistle habitat in the project area. Plants were found on
disturbed clay soils at approximately 7000+ feet along the face above the North Fork of
the Gunnison. Suitable habitat is lacking at higher elevations in the project area where
most disturbance will occur. Long term and cumulative impacts on Rocky Mountain
thistle will not occur. This project will not impact the viability of the species, or result
in a trend of Rocky Mountain thistle towazds federal listing.
MANAGEMENT INDICATOR SPECIES
The USDA Forest Service, Region 2, lists eight species, seven ten•estrial vertebrates and
common trout, which occur, potentially occur, or habitat for which occurs on this portion
of the Gunnison National Forest as Management Indicator Species (Table 4). The
purpose of this section of the report is to address these species and determine if the
proposed activities aze likely to affect any of these species or their habitat within the
project area.
30
