• No roads run through habitat capable of supporting yellow-billed cuckoos.
• Cumulative adverse affects on yellow-billed cuckoos by proposed actions will not
occur.
• The limited scope and scale of the proposed action means that yellow-billed
cuckoo habitat is not at risk, and population viability is not at risk.
Based on current information, the project will have No Effect on the yellow-billed
cuckoo.
Gunnison sage grouse: To date no Gunnison sage grouse have been located during
surveys in this portion of the Gunnison Forest. The Gunnison sage grouse is a sagebrush
obligate species and sagebrush habitat is not found on or neaz the project azea.
The nearest known populations of this bird are found more than ten miles away in the
Black Canyon of the Gunnison azea.
• Potential suitable habitat for the Gunnison sage grouse does not exist within the
Project azea.
• The proposed project will not affect any sagebrush habitat that could support
Gunnison sage grouse.
• No roads run through habitat capable of supporting Gunnison sage grouse.
• Cumulative adverse effects on Gunnison sage grouse by proposed actions will not
occur:
• The limited scope and scale of the proposed action means that Gunnison sage
grouse habitat is not at risk, and population viability is not at risk.
Based on current information, the project will have No Effect on the Gunnison sage
grouse.
Boreal toad: The boreal toad typically lives in damp conditions within the vicinity of
marshes, wet meadows, streams, beaver ponds, glacial kettle ponds, and lakes
(Hammerson 1999). It is restricted to areas with suitable breeding habitat in spruce-fir
forests and alpine meadows and is generally found in suitable habitat between 8,500 and
11,500 feet in elevation. Boreal toads breed in any body of water lacking a strong current
and with gradually descending banks at some point around the perimeter. The primary
requirement for breeding apparently is the presence of shallow water. The nearest known
location where boreal toads were found was along Buzzard Creek approximately 15 miles
from the project area. Three adults were found, but there was no evidence of breeding.
There have been no breeding populations found on Grand Mesa in 5 years of studies.
21
