Banks and Gesso, LLC
Introduction
This application is Amendment Number Two to Permit Number M-77-211
(Pikeview Quarry). Castle Concrete Co. is seeking approval to add
approximately twenty-six new acres to the existing permit boundary. The
purpose of this Amendment is to improve the current slope stability and to allow
for more effective reclamation.
The land being added to the existing permit boundary is part of the Pike National
Forest and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. A Special Use application to
use this land has been submitted to the Forest Service. That application is
currently pending. As of the time of this submittal the Special Use permit has not
been approved. However, both the Forest Service and the Division of Minerals
and Geology agreed that this Amendment could be submitted and processed
simultaneously with the Special Use Permit review.
This Amendment is locally referred to as the "Pikeview Layback". It is supported
by Castle Concrete Co., the Colorado Mountain Reclamation Foundation, the
Colorado Springs City Council, the EI Paso County Board of County
Commissioners and a broad segment of the public. This Amendment is the
result of many years of discussion and public involvement concerning the most
appropriate reclamation of the Pikeview Quarry.
Pikeviewlluarry-ConstructionMaterlal ~ 20006.WD
Regular 112 Permit Amendment September 22, 2000
Castle Concrete Co.
