Long
Division Director
As promised, the following is a list of all the Rio Grande Gravel pits, which were cited for various
problems during the July il, 1995 inspection trip, and the current status of the problems.
1) SEVEN MILE PLAZA PIT (M-78-065) .
a) All the problems have been resolved.
b) The Division's data processing system has been corrected to reflect the 8.34-acre
permit area.
2) 10-MIL,E SOUTH PIT (M-78-06b)
a) All the problems have been resolved.
b) The permit size is 8 acres.
3)
4)
MAXEYVILLE PIT (M-78-068)
a) This operation is being converted to a 112 Regular Permit.
SANDERSON PTT (M-78-069)
a) All but two of the problems have been resolved.
b) Under the existing permit, Rio Grande County is not aflowed to have a water
impoundment within the permit area. There are two possible solutions. One, the
pit can be bacld-Llled to eliminate the pond or two, Rio Grande County can amend
the reclamation plan to include a pond, since the post-mining use is wildlife habitat.
But, if groundwater is going to be left exposed, all the water rights issues have to
be resolved.
