O
:ti
1997 data showed 3,026 stems/acre and in 1998 there were 2.774 stems/acre. Sage in this
area present a mosaic pattern with higher densities in some spots. The predominant
herbaceous cover in all the reclaimed areas is thickspike wheatgrass, Russian wildrye,
green needlegrass, and penstemon. Copies of all the vegetation data is attached for your
information.
Sage grouse droppings are readily apparent on the site. I observed a pair of sage
grouse in October and the consultant who did the vegetation sampling observed several
sage grouse as he collected data over the course of several years.
I am requesting any comments you may have with respect to the reclamation as it
pertains to wildlife habitat. Please call me if you have any questions at 303-866-4927.
Thank-you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Sandra L. Brown
Environmental Protection Specialist
Attachments
