Sites SRT938 and SRT941
aze particulazly at risk, in light of the significant damage mine subsidence has already
caused to the prehistoric rock art at sites SRT345, SRT939, and SRT940. However, the
potential effect of mine subsidence and other impacts related to the mining operation should
be determined for those sites identified within the area of potential effect (APE) which aze
eligible for or listed on the NRHP. The potential effect of the mining operation on each
potentially eligible (i.e. "need data") site should also be determined unless additional
investigation indicates that it is not eligible for the NRHP.
If azchaeological resources aze discovered during project activities, work must be
interrupted until the resources have been evaluated in terms of the National Register of
Historic Places eligibility criteria (36 CFR 60.4) in consultation with our office.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please
contact Greg Wolff, Section 106 Archaeological Compliance Coordinator, at (303) 866-
4674.
Sincerely,
.~.~~ ~~
rrj Georgianna Contiguglia
~/ State Historic Preservation Officer
GC/GAW
