III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
STAT t, OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (3071 83?-8706
Juan Gazcia
Colowyo Coal Company, L.P.
5731 State Highway 13
Meeker CO 81641
Deaz Mr. Garcia:
8 August 2000
~~
I V I S I O N O F
INERALS
GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION
MINING•SAFET7
Bill Owens
Governor
Greg E. Walther
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Dnenor
We at the Division of Minerals and Geology have been working diligently on Colowyo's request
for bond release for exploration sites from NOI CX-95-109-OS and other issues associated with
exploration during the time period from 1995 through 1999.
In the process, some questions have arisen about several individual drillholes and/or drill sites.
Below a list is provided along with the pertinent information we have in the files. In each case
the information does not include a final resolution for the particulaz site or hole. Could you
provide any further information on the sites listed so we can ensure that our records aze complete
and accurate.
Drillholes MJ-95-O1, MJ-95-02, MJ-95-03, W-95-15, MW-95-O1 and MW-95-02 aze listed in
the Final Reclamation Report, received 8-2-1996, as being made water wells and registered
with the State Engineer. We can find no request for approval of wells by that designation in the
NOIs or accompanying documents. It is possible that these aze the drillholes requested iu
Amendment l; however, in that amendment, the drillholes aze called only Lower Wilson
Creek, Upper Wilson Creek, Upper East Fork of Jubb Creek, Upper West Fork of Jubb Creek,
Lower Jobb Creek, and East fork of Jubb Creek. Nowhere in aze records is any connection
between those sites and a well designation.
We1196-1 was approved in July, 1996. We can't find a record of its ultimate disposition.
We have been able to rectify all the other wells, tracing them from request to final disposition.
Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please feel free
to call me at 303-866-4928.
Sincerely,
~(/~t~G2tiGG.~
G,im Burnell
Environmental Protection Specialist
