The strata underlying the production zone is expected to be sands, gravels and/or
claystone.
Soil and Overbwden. Existing soil conditions as reported in Exhibit I indicate
there are adequate amounts to resoil the area to be distwbed. In addition, an exploration drilling
program conducted by the operator encountered soils averaging from zero [o two feet in
thickness.
Salvaged topsoil wiil be stockpiled nearby each clay pit. The
slopes of the soil stockpiles will be no greater than 3H to I V. If the soil stockpiles are [o remain
intact for more than one growing season, they will be seeded with a cover crop to protect them
from wind and water erosion. The overbwden consists of sand,
gravel and claystones considered unuseable for the manufactwe of brick. These strata aze also
flat-lying and lenticular as aze the useable clays. This material will be used for backfilling and
sloping wherever needed.
Mining Plan. Several distinct clays occw on this property. Because of the clay deposits
are lenticular and irregular, several pits may be needed to obtain the variety of clays that
production demands. Mining will occur in three stages. Stages 1 and 2 are divided into two sub-
stages each and are designated Stages lA, 1B, 2A and 2B. This will allow different clays to be
mined from noncontiguous areas of each stage concurrently.
Pits will be operated on a demand basis. Normally clay from each pit will be stockpiled
dwing a period of one to three months, once or twice a year. The stockpiling of different clays
could Draft Revision July 1999
6
