Any wetlands
should be delineated and mapped.
This office should be contacted by a proponent of the project for proper Department
of the Army permits or changes in permit requirements prior to any work in an existing
wetland or stream.
Please find the attached list of Environmental Consultants who may assist in the
wetland delineation and mapping.
Please be advised that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has determined that
the Ute ladies' tresses orchid, Sniranthes diluvialis, may occur in seasonally moist soils and
wet meadows near springs, lakes, or perennial streams and their associated flood plains
below 6,500 feet elevation in certain areas of Colorado. This plant species is now officially
listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. For projects in specific areas, a
survey for this plant species, approved by the USFWS, will be required before the Corps of
Engineers can issue authorization for work within waters of the United States. I have
attached a copy of a November 23, 1992 letter from the USFWS outlining this requirement
and a list of recognized Spiranthes diluvialis consultants.
