Box 1303
Boulder, CO 80306
Ref: 91131D - Deepe Pit
Dear Mike:
The purpose of this letter is to respond to your request for information on the
potential impacts on reclamation-related earth moving efforts due to the changes
between the previously approved MLRB reclamation plan and the revised plan
currently submitted for review.
The intent of both plans are to balance on-site earthwork quantities. The primary
reasons for the proposed lakes in the original plan was to provide a source for
material (shale) which could be used to meet the proposed reclamation plan grades.
Based on the final mined material volumes and the currently proposed reclamation
plan grades, additional shale excavation is not required in order to obtain materials
to provide an earthwork balance for the site.
In summary, there is significantly less reclamation related earthwork required to
meet the final grade elevations of the currently proposed reclamation plan. This is
the result of maintaining earthwork balances and planning for different final
reclamation grades.
I hope this addresses your concerns. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have
additional questions.
Sincerely,
SCOTT, COX & ASSOCIATES, INC.
William H. Mitze ~
cc: Mr. Ed McDowell
