• December 1986 9
4.0 SITE CONDITIONS
4.1 Topography
The Little Middle Creek tract lies at
Foidel Creek watershed. The ground
mining area generally slopes northward
the order of 10 to 15 percent.
863-2052
the southern margin of the
surface in the proposed
at gradients typically on
The Wolf Creek seam and overlying strata dip to the north at an
average gradient of approximately 18 percent. The ground surface
therefore forms a "dip-slope," dipping in the same direction as
the underlying strata but at a slightly flatter angle. The
surface slope is dissected by a series of draws formed by north
to northeast-flowing intermittent streams. These draws are
relatively steep sided. They significantly reduce overburden
thickness above the Wolf Creek seam and comprise valleys which
will be locally filled with excess spoil during mining and
reclamation.
The southern boundary of the tract coincides with a sharp ridge
which marks the boundary of the Foidel Creek watershed. The Wolf
Creek and overlying units crop out along this southern ridge,
which forms a natural limit to possible mining of the Wolf Creek
seam. The outcrop area comprises the recharge zone for the Nolf
Creek overburden aquifer in the mining area.
Elevations in the tract area range from a maximum of 8,350 feet
at the high point of the southern rim to a mimimum of approxi-
mately 7,300 feet along some draws at the northern tract bound-
ary. The combination of elevation and north-facing slope results
in a prolonged period of snow cover.
Golder Associates
