RECLAMATION PLAN
Topsoil and overburden will be stockpiled together south of the mining area, but inside the
affected land boundary. Once the mining is completed it is a matter of hauling the soil around to the
east side and spreading the soil westward down the finished slope.
Soil will be spread over the entire slope of the mined area to a minimum depth of eight (8)
inches. It is very likely that there will be considerably more soil than is needed to cover the slope to
the required depth. If that excess soil can be used effectively elsewhere to reclaim other finished
slopes (or in the creation of the reservoir) then it can be hauled to those locations. Otherwise, all of the
soil should be used on these slopes.
Absolutely no fertilizer will be used to amend the soil taken from this area, whether the soil is
used here or elsewhere. Based on the abundant weed growth that is also very persistent, fertilization
will only add to the weed problems and make the infestation stronger.
REVEGETATION:
HERBACEOUS VEGETATION- Revegetation ofthis site will not be difficult, except for
possibly the south facing slope of the temporary reclamation on the north side of the Little Johnson
azea. The slopes, even if steeper than shown on the Reclamation Plan Maps (Exhibits F-1 and F-2),
will be gradual over nearly all of the site. Furthermore, with the groundwater not far below the surface
it is likely that, once established, the vegetation will grow strongly. Following is the seed mixture
specifically designed for this area. This mixture is similar to the mixtures to be used elsewhere, but
has some ingredients that are more appropriate for this situation.
The seeding rates indicated here are for drill seeding. In the event this seed mixture is
broadcast the quantity of seed should be increased by two times. For the final revegetation, drill
seeding is recommended everywhere except on steeper slopes on the north and south sides where
equipment may not be allowed to work safely. If broadcast seeding is used the soil surface should
be thoroughly and deeply harrowed or disced immediately prior to seeding.
Daniels Sand Pit #2 -Little Johnson Amendment - M-9s~3-oo~ Exhibit E Page 4
