Street
Denver, CO SOZG3
RE: Amendment to Snyder Quarry: File Number !•)-77-210
Dear Clember s
~~~~~~~
l~q y r ~°89
AECCAMAT On AND
i/Q;};
I reside in Colorado Springs, am active in community
affairs, have recently visited the subject quarry, have
reviewed the March 19"09 amendment application and wish to
register my opposition to saki amendment. I trust this
letter will establish my party status concerning this issue.
The proposed amendment would expand the disturbed area of
the quarry without commensurate reclamation. As I
understand the amendment, meaningful reclamation would be
delayed until the proposed Phase IV is mined. Thus, the
amendment would subject Colorado Springs to increased
particulate loading and extend the period of time citizens
would be subjected to these increased levels of air
pollution. t9y reyuest is that you do not er.pand the permit
area until the current commitments for reclamation are
complete.
I hereby request that the Board reyuest a technical analysis
from the Colorado e,ir Quality Control Commission ccr,cErning
the air ycality impacts of the proposed amendment. I hops
other entities will join you in making sucn a recuest.
I am also requesting that the Board hold a hearino
concerning the Snyder Quarry Amenument in Ccloraco Springs.
Please be mindful that local residents nave no local
recourse to decisions affecting the expansion and cxraticns
of the Snyder Quarry. The QG acre mining area was
grandfathered in when E1 Paso County developed applicable
regulations in 1571. In my vie~.~ this circumstance ancui~
clue the Beard added incentive to hear the ;zany kcal
concerns that are begin.nir,e to surface.
