Mount
RE: Perna M-83-052
Technical Revision for Removal of Cyanide Amendment
Dear Mr. Mount:
This letter represents an application for a Technical Revision to the existing Regular 112 Mining
and Reclamation Permit M-83-052. This permit is for the existing Joker Mine and pilot plant in
Moffat County, Colorado. The original permit was awarded to Marathon Gold Corporation
(Marathon) in September 1983 for operation of the pilot scale mining operation. In 1985,
Marathon applied for an amendment to the permit that would allow the laboratory use and testing
of cyanide solutions in gold assay and recovery research. The Division of Minerals and Geology
(DMG) subsequently approved this permit amendment application.
Mining & Minerals Ltd. 11 purchased the Joker Mine and Pilot Plant in January 1992. The DMG
approved the transfer of Permit M-83-052 in February 1992. Since the permit transfer, Mining &
Minerals Ltd. II has been conducting metallurgical tests with plans to renovate and begin pilot plant
operations. Current operations at the Joker Mine and Pilot Plant include sample collection for
metallurgical analysis in an off-site laboratory.
Current and future plans for the start-up of the Joker Mine and pilot plant do not include the use of
cyanide in the process. For this reason, Mining & Minerals Ltd. II requests the removal of the
permit amendment that allows the laboratory use of cyanide at the Joker Mine. If future plans for
operation require the use of cyanide or other designated chemicals, Mining & Minerals Ltd. II will
prepare and submit the required documents and amendment application for their use.
Based,on the removal of this amendment, the Joker Mine and pilot plan will not be considered
Designated Mining Operation (DMO) because no designated chemicals are being used or stored
on-site, nor are there any toxic or acid-forming materials exposed.
