Ryan and Son, Leyden Pit
Case File M-83-139
Dear Ed:
In February, 1985, the Mined Land Reclamation Board granted a 112
permit for the Leyden Pit. The permit you have on file now
allows two acres of mining to occur per month for a total of
twenty acres per year. The bond amount is 132,000.
In December of 1985, Jefferson County further reviewed the mining
operation and put mots stringent controls on dust monitoring,
noise monitoring, areas of disturbance, and truck traffic.
Ryan and Son began commercial operation of Leyden Pit in August,
1986. Since its opening they have received an increasing number
of requests from customers for different types of rock,
especially concrete aggregate. These requests have prompted Ryan
to review their mining plan in order to fill these customer
orders. In March, 1987, Ryan applied to Jefferson County for an
amendment to their planned development zoning. This request
involved the revision of the mining phases, the permitting of
mining to occur in three separate five acre tracts at any given
time, and revision to the dust monitoring program.
Therefore, we are requesting a technical revision to M-83-139 so
your files can be updated to show three separate five acre
excavation sites. We anticipate that two of the excavation sites
will be located on the east side of the permitted atlas. These
excavations will work from the east to the west. The third
excavation site will be located on the west side of the permitted
area.
We have enclosed a map of the proposed technical revision which
delineates the east side and the west side.
l~
~N~~~ ,~~~ ~I~~~
r
11990 Orant Street Suite 410 Denver, Colorado 80233 452-6611
