DMG Permit No. M-88-I 12
Leak Detection System
Dear Mr. Dillies ~:
On August 2, 1996 at 8:00 a.m. the leak detection system was pumped during the usual
monthly task as per the Approved Permit. The pump was turned off at 3 p.m. That day.
Tlie pump was restarted at 12:00 p.m. August 3 and continued to run until August 8, 7:30
a.m. A total 1,695 gallons per acre per day were pumped from the leak detection
system.
Tlie hill general foreman had suggested that the liner could have been torn by the
contractor who had been out on July 14. On August 5, the area affected by the
contractor was carefully excavated with shovels. After two tears in the upper liner were
found it was decided chat the bockhoe wilh the teeth welded together would be used
to clear the area to look for further holes. The bockhoe also tore the liner near the
anchor trench and a small tear was made to the bottom liner. This area was Covered
and protected from rain until the area could be repaired the next day. On August 8,
Colorado Lining Company repaired all the tears.
At no time between July 14 and August 8 did anything escape containment. Results of
the analyses of the leak detection water taken on July 17 are enclosed for your review.
Sincerely.
Sally H.
