set un

During the first week of pilot demonstration the equipment will be
setup on the edge at the disposal area. Since the irrigation pump
has a 150 foot (max) radius, one setup near the center of the
disposal area would appear to be ideal. Figure 1 shows the
anticipated set up.
The set up should be checked for coverage. Spray should not exceed
the boundaries of the CKD disposal area.
operation
During the full scale demonstration period sludge will be applied five
days per week (Monday through Friday). 15,000 gallons of sludge will
be applied each day. This represents six truck trips per day and is
the current disposal requirement. Hauling will begin at Sam and end
by 5pm each day.
During the full scale period, representatives of the State Health
Department will be present to watch the demonstration. This will be
done on a date agreed to in advance. These representatives will
include Phil Hegeman and Gary Soldano.
The full scale application should be made at rates that will not cause
ponding. Although the purpose of the sludge application is surface
stabilization of CKD, no one should enter the nit area due to the
danq_erous instability of CRD below the surface.
The period after the full scale demonstration will be used to answer
questions. Some of these questions will be the result of the full
scale demonstration. These questions will include:
1. Can a single spray gun cover the entire area adequately?
2. Does the gun have to be mobile or can it be fixed?
3. Is a gas driven pump better than electrical?
4. What is the maximum application rate before ponding occurs?
5. Are odors going to be a problem?
6. Can this operation be carried out without disrupting
Holnam's operation?
7. Does the spray gun perform adequately? ie., is there too
much dust disturbance?
Another question is what will the impact be at a heavy loading? e.g.
30,000 gallons per day (12 truck trips). At least one day at this
loading will be tried. This will challenge the system and provide
valuable information regarding heavy loading conditions which might
occur at peak plant loads or during an emergency.
Based on the results from the pilot operation, recommendations will be
made for full scale operation. The recommended method must be
acceptable to Holnam Inc., the State Health Department and the Fremont
Sanitation District.
2`.
