c~..,~.¢~u.~
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street -Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Subject: Everist Materials
Mascot Placer Operation
Section 24, Township 6 South
Range 77 West, 6s' Principal Meridian
Dear SirMladam:- - - -
Division of Minerals & Gevlagy
I am writing to express our strong opposition to any expansion of the quarry operations in
the Swan Valley.
Yesterday morning, we were returning to our home in Summit Estates. We were on Tiger
Road, when suddenly a herd of six elk scrambled across the road in front of our car.
Fortunately, we traveling slowly and were able to avoid hitting any of the elk. A truck
fully loaded with crushed rock would never have been able to stop in time.
The impact of an expansion of the quarry or the addition of a crushing operation will
adversely affect ground water, air quality, and the wild life in the beautiful Swan Valley.
It will also compromise the tenants of the County Master Plan and the Upper Blue Master
Plan. We are slowly progressing in our efforts to preserve and expand our precious
backcountry and open space. We should not reverse our direction by allowing a crushing
operation in this area.
Tiger Road is widely used by hikers, bicyclists, and horses, and is a popular access route
to the Colorado Trail, Any increase of heavy truck usage will create severe safety issues.
In addition, increased truck usage will result in dust and noise pollution to the many
residences along the road.
In short, a rock crushing operation or any expansion of the quarry, and the accompanying
increase in truck traffic on Tiger Road will degrade the quality of life in the valley; it will
also pose a serious safety threat; and ultimately it will negatively impact property values.
We urge you to deny the request for this rock crushing operation. Thank you for your
careful consideration.
Sincerely,
Gi2~ V
M' ~~ DSO
PO Box 9934 ~"~'
Breckenridge, CO 80424 ~tt-Lp .
May 7, 2004
RECE~?".'C
MAY 0 8 2004
